GOLF: Falcons Place D-II Best Four on NGCA All-American Scholar Team

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. The University of Montevallo golf teams placed four on the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Golf Team. University of Montevallo golfers Aaron Ebert (Huron, Ohio), Britney Martin (Fishers, Indiana), Rachel Shaner (Madison, Alabama) and Tripp Cash (Troy, Alabama) led the way for the University as Montevallo was the top school in Division II with four golfers on the list. Eight schools placed three golfers on the prestigious list just shy of Montevallo’s mark.    more

VOLLEYBALL: Volleyball Set to Host Individual Summer Camp

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Head coach Katie O’Brien of the University of Montevallo volleyball team has announced the Falcons will host a three day camp from June 17-19. The camp is open to all female athletes in grades 6-12. Coach O’Brien and her coaching staff provide an energetic and active camp for young players who are dedicated to developing the skills necessary to play volleyball.     more

 



 

CROSS COUNTRY: Falcons Add Two Athletes for 2009 Season

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo cross country head coach Michael Marquardt announced the signing of two recruits for 2009. Kaley Glover and Haley Evans will join the Falcons this fall in their first season in the Peach Belt Conference.   more

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Women’s Basketball Walk-on Tryout Reschedule Date Announced

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Head coach Brittney Ezell of the University of Montevallo women’s basketball team has announced the new tryout date for high school seniors, junior college players and currently enrolled students at the University of Montevallo. The new tryout will take place on Saturday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m. All interested players need to bring along a physical that is dated within six months of June 13 due to NCAA regulations as well as an unofficial transcript from their current school.  more

ATHLETICS: Twenty-nine Montevallo Student-Athletes Named to GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Montevallo athletic department was third among East Division Gulf South Conference schools with 29 student-athletes named to the Gulf South Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll. Three individuals were named to their respective All-Academic Teams for the 2008-09 year. The Falcons trailed just the University of West Florida (41) and Valdosta State University (31) who each field softball and men’s tennis teams which adds to their total number.    more

BASEBALL: Former UM Baseball Coach Fred Weems Passed Away at age 70

BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. – Former University of Montevallo baseball head coach Fred Weems passed away this past Tuesday (May 12). He headed the Montevallo baseball program for two seasons leading the Falcons to the 1972 Southern States Conference Championship after the University did not field a team in 1971 due to budget constraints. He was named the Conference Coach of the Year that season as well. After the 1973 season he left to become a successful high school coach in the Bay St. Louis, Mississippi area. BASEBALL: Norman Named to the All-South Region Second Team

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Senior Ryan Norman (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) of the University of Montevallo baseball team was awarded a spot on the Daktronics All-South Region Second Team. This is Norman’s first All-Region selection of his career.   more

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Women's Basketball Walk-on Tryouts Postponed

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – In order to allow all qualified players to participate, the University of Montevallo Athletic Department has decided to postpone the women's basketball open try-out in accordance with the Alabama High School Athletic Association's decision to postpone all athletic activities throughout the state of Alabama.  With the try-out being open to high school and junior college student-athletes, we feel that this postponement will be in the best interest of all participants.  A future try-out date will be announced as soon as possible.

BASEBALL: Falcons Awarded Two Gulf South Conference Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team was awarded two honors by the Gulf South Conference. The Falcons were honored with the GSC East Division Freshman of the Year and awarded a spot on the All-Gulf South Conference East Division First Team. Former Hoover High School standouts Ryan Norman (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) and Duston Daugherty (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) helped lead the Falcons this season with Norman being a senior and Daugherty coming in as a freshman.   more
