Brian Pounders returns for his third season as an assistant coach with the University of Montevallo men’s basketball program. He will continue to assist with the day-to-day operation of the program including recruiting, budgeting, scouting and other administrative duties in addition to his on-floor coaching responsibilities.

Pounders was a volunteer assistant with GSC-rival University of North Alabama for the 2005-06 season. Prior to UNA, the Russellville, Alabama native was a student manager with the University of Alabama basketball team from 2001-2003 and was the Head Graduate Manager from 2003-05. The Crimson Tide were SEC Champions in 2002, advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2004 and were crowed SEC Western Division Champions in 2005.

Pounders played for two seasons at Northwest-Shoals Community College, where he was a Co-Captain that helped lead the Patriots to the NJCAA National Tournament in 2000.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in secondary education from the University of Alabama in 2003 and later earned his master’s degree in Sport Management from UA in 2005.

Pounders prepped at Belgreen High School and played under his father Steve Pounders where he gained All-State honors his junior and senior seasons.

Pounders resides in Hoover.
