Falcons Have Best Finish in Program History at GSC Championships

HOOVER, Ala.- The University of Montevallo women’s cross country team had its best performance in school history at the Gulf South Conference Championship today (Oct. 24). The Falcons finished seventh overall besting 2006’s eighth place finish. Freshman Ginny Davis (Madison, Alabama) also matched Montevallo’s best individual finish with a 25th place showing.

Davis’ 20:26.64 was the eighth-fastest time in school history on a course that is known to be a slow 5K. This was the fourth time this year that Davis ran a top-10 time in school history and it’s only her fourth 5K race of her college career.

Sophomore January Waters (Grayson, Georgia) was Montevallo’s second runner across the line finishing 32nd with a time of 20:54.68. Freshman Katherine Schofield (Snellville, Georgia) finished just seven spots behind with a 39th place showing.

Rounding out the scorers were junior Katie Munkus (Trussville, Alabama) in 46th and junior Lindsey Golay (Sharpsburg, Georgia) in 58th.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, November 8 as they travel to Searcy, Ark. for the NCAA Region Meet.
