      CROSS-COUNTRY ADDS TWO FOR 2008

MONTEVALLO (5/15) -- The University of Montevallo women's cross-country team has added two student-athletes for the 2008 season, it has been announced by head coach Michael Marquardt.

Katherine Schofield from Snellville, Ga. and Whitney Adkins from Conyers, Ga. will join the Lady Falcons for fall 2008.

Schofield competed at Brookwood High School and posted a season best 20:12. She also recorded a time of 21:11 at the 2007 Georgia 5A State Cross-Country Championships. Her team placed sixth overall at the 2007 State Championship and third overall at the 2006 championships. She was a four-year letter winner in cross-country and also competed for three years on the track team. Katherine was also named to the county All-Academic Team.

Adkins competed at Heritage High School and posted a time of 21:16 at the 2007 Georgia 4A State Cross-Country Championships. She was the top individual for her team at the state championships.

"We are very excited to add Katherine and Whitney to our team." head coach Michael Marquardt said. "They both had successful high school careers and I am extremely excited they decided to continue their running careers at the University of Montevallo."

"I expect them both to make an immediate impact this fall, just like January and Georgia, our two freshmen did last year. We should have a great pack working together so that we can get our first All-Conference performers this season. I am excited that I get to coach these two young ladies over the next four years and I cannot wait to get started this fall."
