-- Glenn Murphy is a recipient of the NCAA
Division II Degree-Completion Award
for the 2008-09 school year, it has
been announced.
The 6-2 native of Chelmsford,
England native
completed his fourth and final
season of competition at the
University of Montevallo this past
fall. He is one
of three Falcons to receive the
financial award, which will assist
him to complete degree requirements
for his bachelor's degree. Murphy
currently boasts a 3.72 overall GPA
in finance at UM.
Zach Andrews (Baseball)
and Julie Gurak (Women's
Soccer) are the other two UM
student-athlete recipients for the
Degree-Completion Award program for
2007-08.
Murphy is the school's all-time
career leader in assists (57) and
assists per game (.73), as well as
matches played (78). He was named to
his fourth consecutive All-Gulf
South Conference Team and his first
NSCAA/adidas All-South Region
team.
He has also been rewarded for his
work in the classroom, as he has
been named to two consecutive Gulf
South Conference All-Academic Teams
as well as back-to-back ESPN the
Magazine Academic All-District IV
teams.
The purpose of the NCAA Division
II Degree-Completion Award is to
provide financial assistance of a
first baccalaureate degree to
deserving student-athletes.
Candidates will be students who have
exhausted athletics eligibility and
have received financial aid. The
selection process for the national
award emphasizes the academic
performance of the student-athlete.
Other factors considered are
financial circumstances, athletic
acheievement and involvement in
campus and community activities.
