Tauras Dortch will join the Falcons this season. He will compete for playing time as a guard. Taurus spent his freshman season at UAB, where he competed in 30 games, and started in five games. He scored a season-best nine points in a victory over South Florida.

Tauras was a top prep player at Ramsay High School, where he was selected No. 4 in the 2006 Birmingham News Super Seniors. He helped lead his team to the Alabama 5A State Championship and he was selected MVP of the State Championship Tournament. He was voted Most Outstanding Offensive and Defensive Player all four years at Ramsay and Alabama 5A Player of the Year as a senior. He averaged 15 points, three assists and two steals per game as a junior and named to the North-South All-Star Team.

He has two brothers, Jerome and Edward, along with two sisters Latevia and Octavia. A kinesiology major at UM, he is the son of Kathy Dortch.
