Lieutenant Colonel Roberta Dobbs - Kinesiology Alumna of the Year 2009

 

Each February, the Department of Kinesiology honors an Alumnus of the Year as part of the University of Montevallo's Homecoming celebration.  This year's recipient is Lieutenant Colonel Roberta Dobbs (ret.).

Roberta Dobbs holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from the University of Montevallo, a Masters Degree from Jacksonville State University, with an emphasis on Counseling and Guidance and an Ed.S. from Jacksonville State University. She is a graduate of the U.S. Army Physical Therapy School. During her Army career she was a clinician, supervisor, author of articles published in professional journals and researcher.

Lieutenant Colonel Dobbs continued her professional career after her retirement from the Army. She was the first physical therapist in a rural area hospital where she was the sole provider. She built the clinic to three therapists and seven assistants who provided physical therapy in hospitals, nursing homes, and home therapy in a two-county area. She is the owner of Robbie's Physical Therapy, LLC in Fort Payne, Alabama. She continues to work part time in "retirement." LTC Dobbs has also been involved in the Dekalb County Historical Society since 1985, serving as a member and as President. She is currently Secretary. She is a life-time member of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, has worked as a volunteer trail maintainer and has been a Conservancy committee member since 1995. She is a member and Sunday School teacher at the local First Baptist Church.

The Department of Kinesiology is pleased to have Roberta Dobbs as our Alumna of the Year.  She has represented the Department of Kinesiology and the University of Montevallo in exemplary fashion.
