How Do I...

Interlibrary Loan

This interlibrary loan service is used to obtain materials unavailable at this library.  When a student identifies needed materials, checks the online catalog for availability, and determines the materials are unavailable, then he/she may complete an Interlibrary Loan Form.  One form for each item should be completed.

Using the information on the form, the library staff will identify another library that has the material, send an electronic request to borrow the material, and the lending library will send the requested material.  This process takes several days or weeks.  Additionally, libraries do not lend rare books, original dissertations, audiovisuals, reference books, and materials in high demand.

All current members of the University of Montevallo are eligible to use this service: students, faculty, staff, administrators, and faculty emeriti.  Undergraduate students are limited to five requests at one time.  The library is unable to process requests for materials on reserve, books owned by the library, and textbooks available at the bookstore.

The U.S.Copyright Law (Title 17, United States Code) governs the reproduction, distribution, adaptation, public performance, and public display of copyrighted material.  The Carmichael Library reserves the right to refuse to fulfill a loan request, if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the request would lead to violation of the copyright law.
