Payment Options

In person

Checks, VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express are accepted in person at the Office of Student Accounts. Due to security and privacy reasons, the Office of Student Accounts does not accept payments over the phone.

The University of Montevallo is committed to providing students and families with a variety of convenient payment options. Historically, the University has absorbed the costs associated with processing credit and debit card payments. However, due to the rising expense of merchant processing fees, these costs have become prohibitively expensive and reduce funds available for academic programs and student services. Therefore, beginning in July 2026, a non-refundable service fee will be applied to all online credit and debit card payments made through the University’s one-time payment portal. If paying at the cashier window there will also be a surcharge on credit card payments.

The University of Montevallo does not receive any portion of this fee. The surcharge fee is assessed and collected by the University’s third-party payment processor. Students and families who prefer to avoid this fee are encouraged to use alternative payment methods, including electronic check (e-check) or traditional check payments, which do not incur additional processing charges. The University of Montevallo remains committed to offering secure, convenient, and cost-effective payment options to support student success.

At cashier window: A surcharge of up to 3.00% of the transaction amount when paying with a credit card, which is not greater than the cost of acceptance. One-time online payments and payment plan fees are specified below.

By mail

**Please make sure when mailing a payment to UM that the student’s assigned University ID number is included with payment and that payment arrives on or before the payment deadline date so a late payment fee is not incurred**

Payment Plan

The University offers a payment plan administered through E-Cashier for Fall and Spring terms only. For more information about the payment plan, please visit our “Important Information” page. Online

Through Banner Self Service you can make a payment on your account, view past web payments, set up a parent/authorized user, and save payment information to make it easier to pay the next time. You also have the option of paying with an e-check. Everything is secure and compliant with federal regulations. Please note that a surcharge fee will be applied to all online payments made with a credit or debit card to cover third-party processing costs. Students may avoid this fee by using alternative payment methods such as e-check.

Online one-time payment: International Card Service Fee: 4.25%, Minimum Service Fee: $3, Domestic Card Service Fee: 2.95%

To make a one-time payment or To view your student account online:

1. Log into Banner Self Service
2. Under Quick Links, Click Student Accounts, Select Pay Now (this is for one-time payment only)

  • Transact International Payments offers international students and their parents a secure and seamless way to pay for tuition and fees in your currency of choice. Without leaving the student portal, you can quickly and conveniently make an international payment from over 160 countries, using more than 130 currencies.   • Transact Suport: Transact Payments (Illumia) provides support for international payments through Transfermate. You’ll receive real-time account updates and fund-tracking status notifications. For international payment support made directly through CASHNet:

• Payment Plans (Fall and Spring terms only):
  • Nelnet offers payment plans for current term students during the fall and spring terms with 0% interest and $45 enrollment fee. It allows monthly installments from five months – two months. For more information visit mycollegepaymentplan.com/university-of-montevallo or https://www.montevallo.edu/about-um/administration/business-affairs/studentaccounts/payment-plan-information/. Note: There is not currently a surcharge for payment plan holders (using Nelnet). There is an enrollment fee.

1. Log into Banner Self Service, Click the four squares (at top left)
2. Select “Banner”
3. Select “Student”
4. Select “Student Accounts”
5. Select the one of the student account areas to view (Account Information, Account Summary by Term, Setup Payment Plan, or Tax Notification).

Note: Selecting “Pay Now” makes a payment directly to your student account to the term you selected to view. If you are wanting to set up a payment plan for Fall or Spring term. Please see Payment Plan Information for further details.

Setting up an authorized user to pay online:

To set up a parent/authorized user, please click here for further instructions.

Authorized users you select will only see your current balance, which may be split into multiple terms if you have a balance for more than one term. They cannot see any detail information on your account, any of your saved payment information types, or have access to anything through self-services. Also, you cannot see any saved payment information that they set up. When you grant access, they are e-mailed the login name that you assigned and a temporary password that the system assigns. If their password needs to be reset at any time, you need to do this by editing their account (you will see an edit link after you make the user active).
