Summer 2009 Updates: Here’s what some of our
recent grads and current theatre majors did over the summer!
2009 Graduates:
- BJ Underwood, BFA Acting/Directing, performed at the Lost Colony Outdoor Drama,
as well as in JC SUPERSTAR and OKLAHOMA! BJ plans to move to NYC to pursue
acting in January 2010.
- EJ Wilson, BFA
Technical Theatre (Stage Management Emphasis), is working as a stage
management intern with Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas in summer 2009. He will
spend the 2009-2010 season as stage management intern at the Orlando
Shakespeare Festival in FL.
- •Brittney Hunt, BFA
Acting/Directing, is working as a costume stitcher at the Utah Shakespeare
Festival. While at UM, Brittney worked extensively in the costume shop as
well as a performer on stage.
- Savannah Swafford, BFA
Musical Theatre, was hired as the professional choreographer for the JCCEO
“Yes Ambassadors” musical revue in Birmingham during summer 2009. While at
UM, Savannah choreographed HAIR and several College Night original musicals,
and was Dance Captain for UM theatre’s COMPANY. She plans to pursue musical
theatre and dance opportunities in Miami and South Florida.
- Madison Colquette and
Jessica Lee, BA Theatre, moved to Atlanta to pursue work in Arts Management,
Directing and Stage Management.
- David Wencil, BA
Theatre, is enrolling in the 5th year education program at UM and
plans to teach high school theatre.
Current Students:
- Zach Clemons, BFA
Musical Theatre, performed as Sam Houston at the outdoor drama UNTO THESE
HILLS, North Carolina.
- Holly Dale, BFA
Acting/Directing, performed several roles at UNTO THESE HILLS.
- Karow Wilson, BFA
Design/Technology, worked as a technical intern at the Shakespeare Theatre
of New Jersey.
- Logan Reid, BFA
Acting/Directing, acted in the SAG film COTTON on location in Louisiana.
Upon returning to Birmingham, he performed leading roles in SCREW UPS at
Birmingham Festival Theater and ORPHANS at Terrific New Theatre.
- Tabby Stott, BFA
Musical Theatre, performed a leading role in WHITE SAVAGE, as well as the
musical THE MUSIC MAN, at Trumpet in the Land Theatre, Ohio.
- Grant Bowen, BFA
Musical Theatre, performed in several shows including JOSEPH AND THE
AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT at the Snow Camp Theatre, North Carolina.
- Lindsey Bristol,
pursuing BFA Musical Theatre, toured the South and Southwest with Student
Life Productions.
- Marie Pope, BFA
Acting/Directing and Karen Black, BA Theatre, performed as historic
interpreters at the American Village, AL.
- Leslie Hinson, BFA
Acting/Directing and BA French, spent the summer in Chicago auditioning for
various theatre companies.
- Tony McKeel, pursuing
BFA Musical Theatre, performed in PIPPIN with the Magic City Actors Theatre,
Birmingham.
- •James Bennett, BFA
Technical Theatre/Design, is working for a technical production company in
Birmingham.
- James Kitchens, BA
Theatre, directed a production of Yasmena Reza’s ART for the Montevallo
Players. BA Theatre majors Jeremiah Snyder, Tyree Walker and Aaron Moore
performed in the production.
