The University of Montevallo will celebrate its 117th Founders’ Day Thursday, Oct. 10. The day will begin with an 11 a.m. convocation in Palmer Auditorium on the UM campus, during which Michael E. Stephens ’73 will deliver the keynote address. In keeping with annual tradition, the senior class will be invested into the Community of Scholars and will put on their robes for the first time. New members of Omicron Delta Kappa will also be tapped during this ceremony, and a number of faculty, staff and alumni will be honored with annual awards.
Following the ceremony, a light lunch will be served on King Quad at 12:30 p.m. All who attend the convocation, including our newly invested senior class, are welcome to dine at this lunch. Should Mother Nature not comply, we will retreat to Anna Irvin Dining Hall.
At 2 p.m., there will be a book-signing and reception in honor of Mr. Stephens in the foyer of Reynolds Hall. The book, titled Sports Rehabilitation and the Human Spirit, tells the story of the landmark program at the Lakeshore Foundation, which Stephens founded during the mid-1980s.
Also at 2 p.m., there will be a matinee performance of The Thugs in the Chi Box theatre in Reynolds Hall. Tickets are only $5 and entertainment is assured!
From 3–4:30 p.m., there will be various open houses across campus. A complete listing will appear in the Founders’ Day program.
The day will conclude with the 16th Annual Life Raft Debate — an event not to be missed — scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Palmer Auditorium.
