Dr. Mike Hardig is a professor of biology in the Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Montevallo.
He was born in the San Joaquin Valley in California and raised in the central Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Dr. Hardig earned his B.S. and M.A. degrees in biology at Humboldt State University in California. He earned his Ph.D. in botany at Washington State University.
He is an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army. His specialty is plant systematics, which is the study plant diversity. He has been teaching at the University of Montevallo since 1999, where he also heads up the Ebenezer Swamp Wetlands Research and Interpretive Program.
