Dr. Claire M. Edwards
Dr. Claire Edwards is a professor in the Department of Communication Science and Disorders. She completed her B.S. in Early Childhood Education and M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, and her Ph.D. in Speech and Hearing Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Edwards holds the Certificate for Clinical Competence in speech-language pathology from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association and is a licensed speech-language pathologist in Alabama. She joined the faculty at the University of Montevallo in 2006. She served as a board member of the Alabama Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from 2015-2018. Dr. Edwards is a Clinical Supervisor and Graduate Program Coordinator for the CSD department. She serves on Graduate Council and is the Faculty Senate President for 2022-2023. Dr. Edwards has extensive clinical experience in child-language disorders and speech sound disorders and teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in those subjects as well as interprofessional education and professional issues. Certified in the It Takes Two to Talk Hanen program, Dr. Edwards has a particular interest in helping families of young children learn early language facilitation techniques to help promote effective communication. Her current research focus is on interprofessional education and practice pedagogy.
