Emily Gill, MFA, is an Associate Professor of Theatre in the Department of Theatre in the College of Fine Arts at the University of Montevallo. She comes to Montevallo from her graduate work at the University of Georgia where she earned her Master of Fine Arts in Drama focusing on performance design and film theory. Emily received her Bachelor of Arts in English and Theatre Arts from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida and moved from there to an internship at the Seattle Repertory Theatre. After wrapping up at the Rep, Emily returned to her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, where she was a freelance designer for live performance until 2007, then occasional guest contracts until earning a tenure track position at UM in 2009 after two years as a guest instructor. Emily has over 80 design credits in Theatre and performing arts in addition to Certification in Experience Design through Odyssey Works of Baltimore and NYC. A frequent recipient of grant support from UM, in January of 2023, Emily began service as the Director of the Malone Center for Excellence in Teaching at UM working with an expert staff to create professional development programming for Faculty and teaching staff. When not involved in Theatre or academic work, Emily coordinates the Montevallo Artwalk event each year- an eclectic art festival on Montevallo’s historic Main Street.
