Kenneth (Kel) Laeger is a scenic and lighting designer and Associate Professor at the University of Montevallo. In his thirteen years at UM, he has designed numerous scenic and lighting designs such as Spring Awakening, Clybourne Park, The Rocky Horror Show, High Fidelity, Cabaret, God of Carnage, Into the Woods, Rent, Heartbreak House, Assassins, To Gillian on her 37th Birthday, Dead City, Macbeth, Pippin, Musical Comedy Murders and The Seagull. As lighting designer for Opera Birmingham (2000 – 2009) he designed La Traviata, Carmen, Tosca, Rigoletto, and Turandot. In the summer 2013, he produced a digital video, Fistful of Soil, an original play written, directed and performed by students at Montevallo. Kel also serves as UM faculty advisor for the Sherlock Holmes Literary Society. Other interests include August Wilson and his Pittsburgh Cycle of plays and is a member of the Birmingham African American Genealogy Group and has taught various workshop classes related to genealogy. Previous faculty positions were with Alabama State University and The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Kel holds his MFA degree in Scenic Design from Boston University.
