Scholarships aren’t just based on test scores.

There are plenty of departmental scholarships available—some are designed for new students, but lots of them are just for rising upperclassmen based on area of study. Check your major’s list of available scholarships as often as  you can, and you’ll find plenty of opportunities to be rewarded for your commitment to your discipline.  Once you are accepted to UM, apply for scholarships online by March 1st each academic year. Rodney Davis and Mike Strong Chelsea Scholarship Awarded to a full-time student, entering freshman from Chelsea, AL with a minimum GPA of 3.0, an above average ACT, with record of community and extracurricular activities. William Bradford Stephens Scholarship Awarded annually to a student from Chelsea High School, with a minimum 2.5 GPA and a record of good citizenship and community involvement while in high school. The O.J. Carson Endowed Scholarship The O.J. Carson Endowed Scholarship was established by the alumni members of the Delta Chi fraternity on the campus of the University of Montevallo.  The scholarship honors O.J. The Anita McDaniel Brueck ’77 Endowed Scholarship for Phi Mu Members Must be a junior or senior member of Phi Mu Sorority at University of Montevallo. Preference given to a student majoring in Business. Preference given to those with proven financial need. This scholarship will be awarded annually during the spring semester and is not renewable. This scholarship will be awarded in January via a voting system within the Phi Mu Sorority, led by the current Phi Mu President, and approved by the University of Montevallo Foundation Director of Scholarships.
UM Pride Scholarship Recipient will be determined on an annual basis and will be awarded $500 per semester for 2 semesters or $1,000 annually. The award amount will increase based on growth of the endowment. *Recipient must be a full time student at UM *Recipient may be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student *Previous recipients are eligible to reapply Recipient will be a student w/demonstrated efforts to create inclusivity for underrepresented communities including LGBTQ+, Women, African Americans, Native Americans/Indigenous Cultures, Hispanic, Latino/Latinx, Asian/Pacific islanders, etc. with a proven commitment to diversity, advocacy, equality & inclusion. Recipient must submit a personal statement (no longer than 1,000 words that demonstrates experience in specific progressive social activism in any of the categories listed above. UM Student Success Endowed Scholarship To be awarded to a student with demonstrated financial need. Awards will be made by the director of financial aid.
Coach Bob Riesener Endowed Scholarship Established by baseball alumni, this scholarship is to provide funding for a current baseball student-athlete and/or a fifth year student-athlete who has completed their eligibility playing baseball. The recipient may receive the award for one year only. It must be reported on the squad list per NCAA rules. The award is suggested by the UM Baseball Head Coach and approved by the Director of Athletics.
Ronnie E. Ellison Endowed Scholarship Recipient must have applied and been accepted to the University of Montevallo and will be awarded to a student with the greatest need. Preference is given to a student from Jemison, Alabama. Apply Now

Alumni Scholarships

Alumni Leadership Scholarship Applicants must be entering freshmen. Applicants must be accepted for admission to the University of Montevallo. Applicants must be actively involved in and/or in leadership roles in both their school and community. Proof of leadership must include activity involvement outside of their religious affiliation. This may be done through a portfolio, written essay form, pictures and/or other documentation. Applicants must write a one page essay explaining why they want to attend UM and how their leadership and academic qualities would be an asset to the university. Applicants must submit at least two but no more than three letters of recommendation. Only one letter may be from a leader of a religious affiliation. Completed online application. Alumni Legacy Book Scholarship Students who are children or grandchildren of active alumni are eligible to apply. The parent or grandparent must hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from UM and be considered an active donor to the University of Montevallo Foundation for three of the past five years. Alumni giving for the purposes of determining active status must be completed before the July 1 scholarship deadline in the current year. Interested students indicate they are children or grandchildren of UM graduate on the application. The number of scholarships awarded will be based upon the availability of funds. Junior Alumni Board Leadership Scholarship Applicants must be a sophomore, junior or senior student at the University of Montevallo or a junior or community college transfer student in pursuit of a degree in their field of study. Applicants must have no less than a cumulative 3.0 GPA from their current university, college or post-secondary school at the time of application. Applicants must be actively involved in their school or community.

  • Applicants must write a two-page paper to include the following:
    • List school or community’s activities, including offices held and awards received.
    • Describe college goals, including the intended degree(s).
    • Describe areas of interest in field of study.

Anna Papanek Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a student majoring in accounting. James and Jennifer Newman Scholarship The James and Jennifer Newman Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student in good standing at the University of Montevallo who is an accounting major with junior or senior status or a fifth-year student. Preference will be given to a first-generation college student with a demonstrated financial need for scholarship support. While preference will be given to an accounting major, if a qualified accounting major is not identified, the funds will be provided to a qualified student in the College of Business. BMSS Annual Scholarship for Accounting Majors The BMSS Annual Scholarship for Accounting Majors will be crucial in assisting upstanding students through financial hurdles that could otherwise interrupt or all together end their dreams of earning their accounting degree from the University of Montevallo. Turner Endowed Gap Scholarship for Social Work Majors Provides emergency funding to Social Work students who have fallen on financial hardship due to no fault of their own.  Social Work students can apply for the scholarship at any time throughout the semester, simply by scheduling a meeting with the Social Work program chair. Awarded by Social Work faculty.
The M. Leigh Pickett Endowed Scholarship in Social Work Recipient must be a Social Work Major. Preference will be given to a member of the Phi Mu Sorority, first-generation college student and varsity athlete, in that order. Awarded by Social Work faculty.

Sociology Majors Scholarships

John B. Walters Scholarship Awarded to enrolled students majoring in a Social Science field (Social Science, Political Science, Sociology, History) who have achieved at least sophomore standing and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. The Sara Craft Fishman Endowed Scholarship for Graduate Speech-Language Pathology Majors The Sara Craft Fishman Endowed Scholarship for Graduate Speech-Language Pathology Majors is crucial in assisting upstanding students through financial hurdles that could otherwise interrupt or all together end their dreams of earning their M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Montevallo. At the heart of The Sara Craft Fishman Endowed Scholarship for Graduate Speech-Language Pathology Majors, students will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • Must have proven financial need
  • Must have been accepted to and completed one semester of coursework in the UM Graduate Speech-Language Pathology program
  • Must have demonstrated the highest standards of service to the field of serving adults with speech-language disabilities
