On Friday, June 23, the University of Montevallo’s College of Fine Arts will host Art Discovery Day, a one-day art camp for high school students.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., students will be engaged in an integrative, intensive workshop in the visual arts.
The four offered sessions are designed to assist students with building fundamental skills while developing creativity in preparation for the first-year experience of college art programs.
These two-hour sessions will include descriptive drawing, using Adobe Photoshop as a design tool, art awareness and learning how to prepare a portfolio for submission to higher education institutions.
“This is just a great warm up to get them prepared for college,” said Art Department Chair Scott Stephens.
Stephens said the department seeks freshmen that can draw well, have a good sense of design and show personal development in their work, all traits the camp sessions will cover.
The cost is $125 per student. Registration can be found at montevallo.edu/partnerships/camps.
