College Of Fine Arts To Premier “Forte Festival Of The Arts”

Montevallo, Ala. – The University of Montevallo College of Fine Arts will host the inaugural “Forte Festival of the Arts” from Thurs., April 14 – Sun., April 18.

The weekend festival will feature three UM College of Fine Arts productions as well as three senior BFA exhibitions. The festival will also run in conjunction with the Montevallo Arts Festival sponsored by the Montevallo Arts Council.

UM Opera’s production of Così Fan Tutte will be presented in Lebaron Recital Hall on April 14-16 at 7:30 p.m., with an afternoon matinee performed on Sun., April 17 at 2 p.m. Mozart mixes some of opera’s best-known arias and ensembles in this timeless comedy, which many believe to be one of the best operas ever written. This family-friendly production is with full orchestra and all performances are in English.

UM Theatre will present the Tony Award winning rock musical Spring Awakening in the Reynolds Studio Theatre for a two-weekend run. Showings are April 15-16 and April 21-24 at 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee performance on Sun. April 17 and 24. This compelling adaptation of the 1891 play by German playwright Frank Wedekind explores the universal pleasures and dangers of adolescence and the struggle to find a place of equilibrium in the world. Contains adult language and content.

The UM Jazz Band will present Art for your Ears: Jazz on the Green on Sun., April 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the UM Amphitheater on Flowerhill Lawn. This production features jazz selections from the big band swing era to the present and is free and open to the public. Seating is on the lawn and is unreserved. Patrons are welcome to bring their own chairs, blankets and picnics. Beverages will be available for purchase until 7:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, performance will be moved to Palmer Auditorium.

The 10th annual Montevallo Arts Festival will be held on Sat., April 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Orr Park. The festival is free and open to public and will feature fine arts, handmade goods, fine crafts and student art for purchase.

Three senior BFA exhibitions by Christina Dailey, Courtney Holt and Blake Dillard will be on display on Sun. April 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. in Bloch Hall Gallery.
