MONTEVALLO—The University of Montevallo Department of Music presents the Davis Piano Quartet in concert on Sunday, April 13, at 2 p.m., in LeBaron Recital Hall of the Davis Music Building on the UM campus. This event is the kick-off fundraiser for the Pattin Piano Fund, established in honor of UM Professor Emeritus Anthony Pattin. This fund will be used to provide needed repair, restoration and maintenance of the Steinway pianos throughout the department, including the recital hall, classrooms and teaching studios, and practice rooms. The University has been an All-Steinway School since 2007, and the University and the Department of Music recognize the commitment to ongoing maintenance and repair that is needed to keep the instruments in excellent condition for decades to come.
The Davis Piano Quartet members are Beulah Fowler, Cheryl Walls, Sandra Nelson and Carolyn Duncan, all UM alumni. The two-piano, eight-hand group chose their name in tribute to the late Maxine Couch Davis, who taught music at Montevallo for many years. The ensemble boasts many performances in the Southeastern region and beyond, including two appearances at Carnegie Hall.
The program will include works by Rachmaninoff, Bizet, Ravel and UM Professor Emeritus Edwin Robertson. Many of the works on the program were arranged specifically for the Davis Piano Quartet by the late pianist and scholar, Lucien Stark, who coached and arranged for the DPQ during the last 10 years of his life.
General admission tickets for the event are $20 ($10 for students), and donors are invited to contribute at one of the following levels: Adagio ($250), Andante ($500), or Allegro ($1,000). Donations may be arranged ahead of time or may be made at the door. For tickets or to make a donation, contact Dianne Kyzer, 205-665-6215, kyzerdc@montevallo.edu.
