Freddie the Falcon returns at Midnight Madness

Freddie the Falcon made his return to the University of Montevallo campus Oct. 17 during Midnight Madness, which served as the official kick off of the Montevallo men’s and women’s basketball season.

Freddie performed a pair of skits with Montevallo cheerleaders in front of a packed Trustmark Arena before ending the night by having his photo taken with fans in attendance.

The event also featured the introduction of the 2013-2014 Montevallo men’s and women’s basketball teams and cheerleading squad. Midnight Madness featured a five-minute scrimmage by both the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

One Montevallo student took home a Dell Latitude laptop through a raffle ticket drawing while a pair of students came up just short in half-court shots for a $1,000 tuition stipend.

Other giveaways also included University of Montevallo blankets and pop-up chairs. Students in attendance also took part in a pair of competitions, including a clothing relay and a 4-legged race. The first 400 students in attendance also received a t-shirt commemorating the event.

The Montevallo men’s basketball team opens the exhibition portion of its schedule Monday, Nov. 4 with a trip to Lexington, Ky., to take on national powerhouse University of Kentucky.

Tip off at historic Rupp Arena is set for 6 p.m. The game will be televised regionally by Fox Sports South.

The Montevallo women’s basketball will make a short trip to Birmingham, Ala., to take on Samford University in an exhibition game on the same night. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
