UM Professor Ted Metz is a retired art professor from the University of Montevallo. He is a nationally recognized artist and a two-time Visual Arts Fellow of the State of Alabama. His public sculpture, Becoming, situated at the center of Montevallo’s campus, focuses on the theme of learning through the student/teacher relationship.
When he came to the university, he was the sole faculty member teaching the 3D arts and was one of only four full-time faculty members teaching the arts. Thanks in large part to Ted’s leadership and vision for the art department, the program today has a strong reputation for excellence and has grown to include 13 full-time faculty teaching over 250 art majors.
Throughout his career, Ted has generously given of his time and talents, both to his students and to his community. It is with this spirit of dedication that the UM Department of Art, led by Professor and Chair Scott Stephens, dedicated the proceeds of the 20th Annual Alumni Art Auction to the Ted Metz Scholarship Fund for Art Majors. The silent auction and BLOCH PARTY reception held during this year’s Homecoming weekend raised $7,000 for the scholarship.
