Montevallo to close Wednesday, Feb. 25

The University of Montevallo will be closed Wednesday, February 25, 2015. The National Weather Service has currently placed the University’s service area under a winter storm warning for Wednesday.

The Anna Irvin Cafeteria will remain open for regular hours during this time.

Multiple forecasts indicate a high probability of snow (1-4 inches) in the Birmingham Metro area on Wednesday starting mid-morning and continuing throughout the day until the late evening. While temperatures may remain slightly above freezing during the day, they are expected to drop below freezing in the late afternoon, creating hazardous driving conditions throughout the affected area.

The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our primary concern. While we recognize that Montevallo may not be directly affected, we remain highly aware of the number of commuters who are a part of the UM family and who could be put in harm’s way by the drive required to come to campus.

We encourage everyone to utilize a good source of weather information, to remain aware of changing weather and road conditions, and to be prepared for winter-weather driving if they must drive.

Additionally, the University administration will continue to monitor the weather regarding possible travel issues during the morning hours of Thursday, February 26, 2015. If there is a need to postpone Thursday classes, you will be notified via e-mail and the UMAlert system. This information will also be posted to the UM Facebook page.
