The purpose of Spectrum is to provide programs and services to address the unique needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) community of the University of Montevallo and to increase the awareness and understanding of issues pertinent to our members and the college community as a whole.
Safe Zone Program
The Safe Zone Program provides a visible network of allies for LGBT+ students, faculty, and staff seeking information and assistance regarding sexual orientation, gender identity, harassment, and/or discrimination. Safe Zone volunteers have participated in special training sessions and proclaim their support of LGBT+ students, faculty, and staff by posting the Safe Zone sticker and engaging in activities organized by the Safe Zone Committee. The Safe Zone Committee includes faculty, staff, and students and often collaborates with Spectrum, the student organization for gender/sexuality alliance.
