The University of Montevallo will close today (Monday, April 28) at 1 p.m. This includes all classes and activities. This will not impact exams that are scheduled to conclude by 12:30 p.m.
We are facing an unpredictable weather situation that has the potential to be very dangerous. A wide scope of weather activity ranging from tornadoes to flooding to damaging straight-line winds and large hail is possible. The anticipated time for our area to be affected is between 4 and 5 p.m. this afternoon.
Because the safety of our students, faculty and staff is of utmost importance, we are closing at a time that allows people to get home from campus safely. Additionally, we are making this announcement in time for those commuting to campus for afternoon finals to remain in a safe place.
A message regarding scheduling changes affecting this finals week is forthcoming from the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Be sure to check your e-mail for that announcement.
Ongoing weather threats continue through Wednesday morning. Please be sure to monitor a reliable source of weather information, as well as e-mail and UMAlerts.
As a reminder, all residence halls are shelters. Additionally, Farmer Hall and the Ramsay Hall basement are shelters.
