UM is once again offering free tax return filing assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
This will be the fourth consecutive year for the program, which has grown from just 30 clients in 2012, the first year it was offered, to 71 in 2014. The goal for this year’s program, which provides free services to the community and invaluable experience to qualified business students, is 100 or more.
Services will be offered each Saturday through April 11. The location for this year’s services will be Morgan Hall, room 202, on the UM campus. Hours will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. An additional time will be offered Wednesday, April 8, from 4-8 p.m.
Individuals interested in utilizing these services should bring a photo ID, social security number for each family member and working adult, W-2s and other income forms, childcare provider name, address, tax ID and bank routing and account numbers for checking and savings accounts. In past years, there was an income cap of $53,000, but for 2015 that cap has been removed.
