University Scholar presentation announced

The University Scholar presentation is scheduled for Thursday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m., in LeBaron Recital Hall.

A lecture and performance featuring small ensemble and solo pieces will be presented by Lori Ardovino, the 2014 University Scholar.

The presentation will involve a variety of music, including three song cycles, two pieces for clarinet and narrator and one for solo soprano saxophone. Ardovino’s commentary will focus on her style of composition, her influences and her reasons for choosing certain styles of text. The poetry for the song cycles includes work by Emily Dickinson, William Carlos Williams, e.e. Cummings, T.S. Elliot, Shel Silverstein and five Japanese women poets from the 11th to the 13th centuries.

Additional performers include Melanie Williams, soprano; Laurie Middaugh, piano; Joe Ortiguera, violin/viola. Joe Ardovino will serve as narrator.

This event, which is sponsored by the College of Fine Arts, the Division of Academic Affairs and Faculty Development and Collaboration, is free and open to the public. A reception will follow. For more information, contact Kathy King at kingk@montevallo.edu or at 665-6504.
